Rajkumar Hirani accused of sexual harassment – BizAsia

Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani has become the latest star in the Indian film industry to be named in the #MeToo movement.

The director of films like ‘Sanju’, ‘Munna Bhai’ franchise and ‘PK’, has been accused of sexual misconduct by a woman on more than one occasion during the post production work of ‘Sanju’ last year.

The HuffPost reports that alleged incident in an email dated 3rd November 2018, addressed to ‘Sanju’ co-producer, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, his wife Anupama Chopra, sister Shelly Chopra and scriptwriter Abhijat Joshi.

The email states that Hirani first made a s sexually suggestive remark to the accuser and then sexually assaulted her at his home-office on 9th April 2018. An excerpt of the letter said, “My mind, body and heart were grossly violated that night and for the next 6 months.”

Responding to the allegations, Hirani said in a statement, “I was completely shocked when these allegations were brought to my notice about two months back. I had suggested immediately that it is essential to take this matter to any committee or legal body. The complainant has chosen to go to the media instead. I want to very strongly state that this is a false malicious and mischievous story being spread with the sole intention of destroying my reputation.”

It is not yet known if this is the reason why Hirani’s name went missing from the new posters of his forthcoming film ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga’. On Friday, the new posters, the other co-producers of the film Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Fox Star Studios were the only two to be displayed on the promotions.
